"In the work of Lizano the meaning of the matter is fundamental: the corrugated cardboard used in the preparation of boxes for packing with their printed texts, cuts, folds, marks and seals; in recent works serving as aged wood, clothed in the spirits of their origin. It’s loaded with significance – on one hand its provenience and that character of recycled material, tied to the heteroclite sense of the object and communication of a reinvented artistic device in moving bodies, ensembles and installations. On the other hand, recycling the icons of the cultures of antiquity, the great effigies, Atlantis, caryatides now inspire the image of the new Caribbean deities, or the faces robbed of merriment daily in the city of San José faced with contemporary pressures, with cultural conflicts of the blending of cultures and "otherness", elements of the multiculturalism and globalization that surrounds us."

Translated from the original Spanish, from the website of the Museo de Arte y Diseño Contemporáneo de Costa Rica (Costa Rica Museum of Contemporary Art and Design).

Other works by Roberto Lizano can be found under "Mixed Media."

"We really had a great time on the Art Tour. I was telling my mom that to just walk into a gallery and look at art seems so dry to me, but to see the artists and hear their stories and inspirations just gave the art such a personal feel to me!"

"Your Costa Rica Art Tour was truly a delight. You did a wonderful job in selecting a very talented group of artists with personalities to match. Both Marie and I hope to have the opportunity to share the experience again. Your idea of doing a photographic tour of San Jose sounds very appealing."

We hope to see you on the next Costa Rica Art Tour! You are sure to enjoy seeing the work of Costa Rican artists and artisans in their private studios and galleries! Private art tours take place in small groups of 10 persons maximum, so you will have the opportunity to speak directly with the artists. Painters, sculptors, ceramicists, stained glass artists, printmakers, all are included in the tours, as are traditional artisans such as mask-makers and blacksmiths.

All of our art tours are in private minibusses, and include lunch and translation into English. We can also arrange, at additional cost, transporation in private limousines.
