Self-taught artist Juan Castillo grew up in Turrialba, Costa Rica. After moving to San Jose as an adult, he discovered the gallery of Francisco Quesada Huete, who encouraged him to paint. The fanciful naif paintings that resulted are intriguing depictions of festivals, farm life, and other aspects of life in rural Costa Rica. Private art tours take place in small groups of 10 persons maximum, so you will have the opportunity to speak directly with the artists. Painters, sculptors, ceramicists, stained glass artists, printmakers, all are included in the tours, as are traditional artisans such as mask-makers and blacksmiths. All of our art tours are in private minibusses, and include lunch and translation into English. We can also arrange, at additional cost, transporation in private limousines.
